OUR HISTORY

Dr. Sunita Sharma, had promoted an NGO for the welfare of disadvantaged communities, called The Indian National Trust for the Welfare of Tribals (INTWOT), which has since been renamed as Sulaxmi Lok Sansthan (SLS). SLS has completed around 150 research and land-based community action projects till date, in conjunction with the Government of India and development organizations of international repute in economically backward states of India, including Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The idea of micro-lending originated in year 2001 with the SHG programme on its go. SLS then formed some 312 SHGs in three states, representing a total membership of 3,245 rural poor women. The success of the programme motivated Dr. Sharma to visit independent Microfinance Institutions including Grameen Bank in Bangladesh. The impactful model of on-lending to Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) became the motivating factor for initiating the on-lending programme in Delhi (Dr. Sharma’s native place). The JLG programme was initiated under the headship of the then Director International Operations Mr. Iqbal Singh and the then Director of International Affairs Ms. Harshita Sharma. Both were given the responsibility to head two important designations of Director Microfinance Affairs and Director Microfinance Operations respectively. The programme was initiated in July 2007 and formed around 228 JLGs in Delhi until December 2007.

In Jan 2008 with the purpose of commercializing the Microfinance programme, the promoters of SCL took management and control of SFPL and transferred the entire microfinance operations to it on 1st of January 2009.

After gaining strengh deep understanding of Finance. SFPL has foraryed into main stream commercial financing through its products like SME loans & Project loans.
